ABOUT

New Elephant Home is an ethical elephant sanctuary in Chiang Mai, Thailand, where elephants are free to live with dignity and peace.

For many years, these gentle giants were used for rides and shows. But in 2021, after the passing of the previous owner, his 22-year-old son “New” chose a different path. With the support of Lek Chailert and Save Elephant Foundation, he transformed the camp into a sanctuary built on compassion and respect.

Today, our elephants wander across open fields, forage naturally, and form deep bonds at their own pace. By visiting, you join this journey of renewal — helping create a brighter future for elephants in Chiang Mai.

In the new elephant home，you can feed the elephants by your own hands, bathe them, and be kissed by the elephants. The tour guide Achin is very humourous and good at enlivening the atmosphere.  Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. The elephant camp is about an hour's drive from the city. Our guide, Lily, was very friendly. She gave her explanations in both Chinese and English and did her best to look after every visitor.

It was a rare chance to get up close with elephants: we fed them and even went into the river to give them a bath, and everyone had a great time. However, the elephants seem to have gotten used to a fixed daily routine. They know which actions to perform to please visitors in exchange for food, unlike some camps where elephants roam freely and don't have to please humans to get fed. So every now and then, they get a bit moody.

Overall, it was a great experience, and I hope every elephant is treated kindly.
